During the planning of my wedding in 2008, I wanted to put as much us in it as I could. We didn't have a large budget, and I scoured every possibly inch of the web, local resources, and personal contacts trying to complete the vision I wanted, but without spending loads of cash.
I was a Knottie (csunsweetie) and loved gathering tips and tricks from other brides on the local LA board. I did so many DIY projects that our tiny 400 square foot apartment looked like Michael's, JoAnn's, Target, and Beverly's had lost it's lunch all over it.
Every project I worked on went through a trial and error phase. I come from a pretty crafty set of parents and with their help and ideas, many of my projects went from YIKES! to PERFECT! My mother always had her hands busy with crafting projects while I was growing up ~ from sewing, to creating wreaths, gorgeous ribbons for packages, and even some puffy paint projects {gotta love the 80s!}. My dad worked for his father, alongside several of his brothers and sisters, at a sign company. He now owns the business, and helped create many things that I envisioned. My two favorite for my wedding - my cake topper and the 2 foot by 2 foot D that decorated our ceremony area, and our head table. {it now has it's spot in our living room amongst many photos from our beautiful day}
When I went looking for my cake topper, I had always dreamed of one that was encrusted in crystals. But, when I saw the price tag online, WHOA! my dream almost faded away. But, after a few different trial runs - we finally ended up with a styrofoam spray painted set that we covered in crystals. I love it. I have it framed in my office.
But, Bling Diva Designs wasn't created that day. It was created a short while later when another friend of mine wanted a cake topper for her wedding. I took the leap from using brittle styrofoam to sturdy acrylic. And that is what I continue to use to this day. I graduated from a small wedding project to a larger passion - helping brides add sparkle to their day. I love corresponding with each one, and putting a little bit of myself into their day.
